About Us

North Windy Ridge is located in Weaverville, North Carolina. It is part of the North Buncombe District of Buncombe County Schools. NWR is nestled between the Blue Ridge Parkway and the French Broad River.

North Windy Ridge serves approximately 500 fifth and sixth grade students. It was the first of four intermediate schools built in Buncombe County.

Students at NWR are challenged to succeed in this diverse learning environment. The school opened its doors in August, 2002 with 25 homeroom teachers. The school offers students exploratory classes such as PE, Band, Art, Music, Technology, STEM, Spanish and Media.

Leave US 19-23 at the Flat Creek Exit. Turn right onto NC 2207. Turn sharp left onto Griffee Road and right onto Doan Road (NC 2219).

The direction of North Windy Ridge is to provide a rigorous, diverse curriculum and foster personal connections, ultimately preparing all students to positively contribute and succeed within their local and global communities.
