Congratulations to the following students who competed in the North Carolina FCCLA state culinary competition on Friday at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte. Ella King placed 1st place overall with a Gold Medal in the Culinary Arts competition. This event required competitors to prepare a protein, starch and vegetable (chicken piccata, basil Parmesan orzo, glazed carrots) within 1 hour executing proper safety sanitation, organization, knife skills, proper cooking techniques and plating to perfection. Emma Gouge placed 2nd place overall with a silver medal in the Baking and Pastry Competition. Emma had 2 hours and 45 minutes to prepare chocolate chip cookies, banana chocolate chip muffins, cream puffs, and decorate a 9 inch cake. These events are extremely competitive and this is the first time the Erwin FCCLA chapter has entered, and we are so proud of these 2 ladies who now qualify to compete at the National FCCLA competition in Denver this summer to represent NC and our school!
