Oliver, Katrina

2018-2019 5th Grade Counselor
2019-2020 6th Grade Counselor

Hello! My name is Katrina Oliver. I am one of the school counselors at North Windy Ridge.  At our school, counselors "loop" with their students which means one year we are the 5th grade counselor and the next year the 6th.  Since students have the same counselor both of their years at NWR, this allows us to really get to know our students and families.
I was born and raised in Michigan and moved to North Carolina to earn my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Warren Wilson College.  I taught 5th and 6thgrade for five years and learned that I truly enjoy working with that age group.  In 2009 I moved to Alaska for three years. I love talking about my adventures there, and yes, some do include moose and grizzly bears!  When I moved back to Asheville in 2012, I started to pursue my Master's Degree in school counseling from Western Carolina University.  I have been a counselor at North Windy Ridge since Fall of 2014.

I love being a part of the counseling team at North Windy Ridge.  I enjoy working with all the students in my grade level during classroom counseling.  Working with students in small groups or individually are both parts of my work that I truly enjoy as well.  Students are welcome to leave me individual notes when they wish to meet with me and I also invite parents and guardians to contact me if there is something I can do to help support their child.
