Dear Parents and Students,
North Windy Ridge is a wonderful place to teach and to learn. This school has talented students, caring leadership, creative teachers, and a rigorous curriculum. I am proud to be here.
Before teaching at North Windy Ridge, I taught 4th and 5th grades at Johnston Elementary in Buncombe County. I live in Weaverville and am happy to be teaching in my community now. Before becoming a teacher, I was a wildlife biologist in Pisgah National Forest and received my B.S. at Clemson University. I received my teaching certification from UNCA in 2000. 2005 was an exciting year for me when I received my National Boards and Teacher of the Year for Buncombe County. I obtained my Masters in Education through Gardner-Webb University in 2013. I taught 5th grade language arts and social studies at North Windy Ridge since 2006. Currently I am the Title 1 Lead Reading Specialist. Reading is my passion, and I am happy to be sharing my passion even more in this role.
On a personal note, my husband and I live in a passive solar home in Weaverville that we built with the help of friends and family. We love our pets. Currently, we have two dogs, a rabbit, fish, chickens, a snake, and a horse. My hobbies include gardening, hiking, sailing, playing guitar, learning about nature, and reading of course. When I am not teaching you can often find me at Companion Dog Training teaching dogs (and their owners) beginning obedience or training horses using Natural Horsemanship Principles.
Sincerely, Mrs. Kim Ferguson
